A special meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held this imoning for the purpose of confirming I lie resolution passed at a previous imci ing amalgamating the Onga and liua. taniwha Ridings and the Waipawa and Hampden Hidings for rating purposes. A petition was presented si.um-'l by 37 ratepayers in the Waipawa I > i l l ing protesting against the proposed change. Cr. Thomsen complained tliai he had been wrongly reported at tin last meeting of the Council. He said he did not move that the resolution be withdrawn. He moved that the whole thing be held over till Cr. Kerr again stressed the desirability of holding the matter in abey anee, but Cr. Glenny would not agree to that and the motion was put to the meeting, being carried h\ tW votes to two, Crs. Glenny. Butler, and Thomsen supporting, and flu* Chair man and Cr. Kerr against. Cr. Kerr had desired to move an amendment in the direction of withholding action, but the Clerk considered that that would be a direct negative. Cr. Kerr, after the motion had been passed, gave notice to move nt the next meeting of the Council that the resolution passed at the previous meeting of the Council and Hie one just disposed of he revoked. TT<* said he was sorry to have to take this step, but he felt very strongly on the matter, especially in view of the protests from the ratepayers and the absence of Cr. Paulsen, and they must fight with such weajnms as tlie Aft provided.
