PERSONAL ITEMS.

Sir Joseph Ward arrived at Auckland by the Aorangi yesterday from his visit to England. Mr W. T. Kittow has been elected to the directorate of the Hawke’s Bay Meat Co., to fill the vacancy created by the death of Mr L. McHardy.

A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr W. A. Roberts, a former member of the Borough Council, was passed at the special meeting of the Council on Friday evening.

The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, a former Minister of the Crown in New Zealand, and who was recently divorced, was married in England on Saturday to Miss Kathleen Crabbe, aged 26. Mr Fisher is 51 years of age. '

Mr W. O. Green, Liberal candidate for Egmont, has voluntarily retired from the contest in favor fo Mr Wilkinson, Independent. This will mean a straight-out contest between the sitting member, the Hon. O. J. Hawken, and Mr Wilkinson. The definite retirement, on his doctor’s advice, of Mr J. Horn, the member for Otago Central, leaves three candidates. Mr J. Ritchie is Iho official Reform nominee, Air John Rennett will probably stand as an Independent Reform, and Mr H. A. Bodkin has been approached to contest the seat as a Liberal.
