[Own Correspondent!

A very heavy, gale blew here on Friday night, doing a considerable amount of damage. The telephone line was broken in several places, mostly through trees falling on it. Several sheds were unroofed and cates blown off. The iron fence in front of the hotel was partly blown down, and one of the verandah posts and the iron fence at the hack was levelled. A. very large monkey puzzle tree growing at the rear of Mr Thorpe’s was blown over, damaging the roof of one of the sheds, a large maeroearpa tree next to Air Logan’s was uprooted, and the glass in several windows in the town was blown out. A number of electric light poles near Mr .T. Watts’, on the main highway, were blown partly over, but it is thought that the reason for this was the digging of a fairlv deep drain between the road and the poles, the drain being part of the scheme for widening and improving the road.

Mr C. Petersen met with an unfortunate accident last week. Whilst cycling home one of the pedals of his bike gave way, and he was precipitated on to his head and shoulder. He was picked up in an unconscious condition, and when taken to the doctor it was found that, he was suffering from a broken collar-bone. Air J. J. Langridge has had the misfortune to rupture a varicose vein in one of his legs, as a result of which he will be confined to his room for some time.
