THE FRIESIAN BREED.

A TASMANIAN PURCHASE Mr Geo. Richardson, of Mt. Pleasant Estate, Kingston, Hobart, Tasmania, has just purchased twenty pedigree Friesian heifers from the Rosevale herd of Messrs H. North and Sons, Omimi, Otago. The Rosevale herd of pedigree Friesians is one of the finest dairy herds in the world and has been noted for its consistently high production of milk and butter-fat. Ninety-one records under semi-official testing conditions made at Rosevale have an aver age production of 18,193.91 b milk and 620.651 b fat, no fewer than 30 of these records being made by two-year-old heifers.

Mr Richardson’s purchase comprised the whole of the females that were to be offered at North and Sons’ second annual sale c a May 6, and in consequence the sale has been cancelled. Tasmania i 3 to be congratulated on securing such valuable additions to the dairy herds of that State. A statement appeared in connection with a recent sale in Taranaki that h Jersey cow, Lady Superior, holds the two years’ production record (1677.63 lb fat) for New Zealand. This statement is not correct (writes the New Zealand Friesian Association). Here are some pedigree Friesian dairy cows’ records for two years’ production in New Zealand:— Alcarta Clothilde Pietjc, 1987.951 b fat; Burkeyy Sylvia Posch, 1847.581 b. fat; Hilda Minto Dc Kol, 1784.381 b fat; Monavale Queen Bess, 1751.081 b fat; Bainfield 27, 1685.74 lb fat.

The Canadian Friesian cow, Springbank Snow Countess, has just completed an official seven-day test with a production of 31.381 b fat and a 30-days 1 test with 128.831 b fat.
