OTANE.
(Own Correspondent). A most enjoyable social evening was spent in the Town Hall on Wednesday night, when Mr Janies McRae, the-new headmaster at the local school, was welcomed by his mam old friends. In welcoming Air and Mrs Mcßae, Air J. N. Barrie express ed the great pleasure felt by all at seeing one of the old Otane boys come back to take charge of the school where he received his early education. Miss Langridge, on behalf of the ladies' committee who had organised the social, briefly welcomed Mrs Mcßae and presented her with n bouquet of flowers. Air AY. Sparge spoke on behalf of the School Coinmil tee and speeches of welcome were delivered by the Revs. Robertson and Davidson. In responding Air Mcßae
gave some interesting facts about tin earlier schoolmasters who taught him in the school and expressed the very great pleasure that he felt at coming back to his old home town. A number of apologies for unavoidable absence were read, including one from Air .). C. Taylor, the oldest resident in the district, who has been closely identified with the welfare of Otane since its earliest days. Songs were contributed by Mrs Cleary, Mrs AY. Tod, Miss Catton and Miss Josie Langridge, and Messrs Sanderson, J. Tod and 0. Page, all the items being heartily encored. A guessing competition was held, th'e winners bein'.’ Alessrs C. AYedd (jur.) and J. Tod. AfteV supper had been banded round flic floor was cleared for dancing until midnight.
Tuesday was Otane \ day at the “San,” and a concert partv were motored up. Cars were lent bv Mrs C. J. August, Mrs R. H. Tod and Mr E. G. A\ illiams.
