FRENCH SCHOLARSHIP.
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This day.
At the last meeting of. the University Senate it was decided to establish a travelling- scholarship in French, to be held by the graduate who is prepared to pursue a course of study in France in preparation for the teaching profession. The first scholar will be a returned soldier, Cecil Malthus, ’of Canterbury College, who leaves for Paris at the end of the year. He passed his B.A. in 1911, and was awarded a senior scholarship in English. He passed his M.A. in 1912 witij first-class honors in English and French. Dr. Seig-fried, who was here with Generals Pau’s mission, has written expressing high appreciation of the Senate’s decision. Pie says Paris is rapidly recovering, and there is great intellectual activity and a large number of foreign students. Such students as those from New Zealand are the very ones they desire to welcome, and he offers his good services to facilitate the scholars’ stay in Paris.
