EAST COAST RAILWAY.
WESTSHORE EMBANKMENT. (Own Correspondent). NAPIER, Yesterday. Brief reference was made at the Harbor Board meeting this week to the East Coast Railway. It arose from the following resolution received from the Napier Chamber of Corn; merce in regard thereto : —■ ‘ That the Napier Harbor Board be asked to state when the embankment is likely to be completed, as this chamber intends to take action to induce the Government to proceed with the construction and opening of the first section of the East Coast Railway as early as possible, and seeing that the Minister of Public Works has stated that he will have the first section of the railway ready to be opened by the time the embankment is completed.” The chairman, Mr A. E. Jull, stated that every effort was being made to complete the embankment from both ends.
Mr J. Vigor Brown suggested that some approximate date should be given.
Mr Jull stated it would be unwise. There were only 36 chains to complete and the Chamber could get to work immediately. He thought that was sufficient information for the Chamber. The discussion was not carried further.
