PLUNKET SOCIETY.

On Tuesday evening a farewell social was tendered to Nurse Walton by the mothers and friends of Waipawa. Unfortunately the evening was me of rain and storm which interfered with the attendance, but in spite of the weather, a number of friends gathered in St. Peter’s Schoolroom tor the occasion. After the singing of the National Anthem Nurse Walton gave an interesting lecture on “First Things First.” A vote of thanks was passed to the speaker and the proceedings then became of a social character. Two competitions were indulged in and supper was handed round.

The secretary, Mrs Bott, -sen., then performed the pleasing duty of voicing the good wishes of the mothers of Waipawa in wishing Nurse Walton every happiness and good fortune in her future life. In token of this she presented Nurse Walton with a silver cake-basket which she hoped would remind her of her many true friends in Waipawa. Nurse Walton feelingly replied thanking the givers for their good wishes and their beautiful gift. She was happy if her work had been of benefit to the mothers and would never forget her friends in this place. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant evening to a close.
