WAIPUKURAU,
(Own Correspondent). A pet lamb given by Eileen Allwood, daughter of Mr G. Allwood, for the Soldiers’ Christmas Parcels Fund, was put up by auction by Mr Reid at the saleyards on Tuesday and realised the handsome sum of £2O. Additional sums received for the soldiers’ Christmas parcels are:—Mrs Gow £l, Mr W. Storah 10s, Mrs E. A. J. Elliott 10s, Mrs Geo. White £l, Mrs G. Mcßae 10s, Mrs F. L. Cullen 10bj Mrs D. Winter 10s, Mr M. Murphy 10s, the Misses Shand (3) 10s each.
The other evening a collision took place on the Takapau road, about a mile out of Waipukurau, between a motor bicycle ridden by Mr J. McKay, and a motor car in the charge of Mr C. Pike. The car, which was knocked about a good deal, was drawn up on the side of the road when the motor bicycle ran into it. The rider of the bicycle was thrown heavily from his machine and had to have the attendance of Dr. Coats.
The assemblage at Russell Park yesterday afternoon to celebrate Arbor Day, adjourned from a recent date through bad weather, comprised the Mayor and members of the Council, the Progressive Association, many other citizens and the senior boys and girls from the District School. The planting of ornamental trees and shrubs was performed, and a large amount of work indulged in by those present for the further beautifying of the park.
