BLACKBURN.

(Own Correspondent)

Death has been amongst us, and has removed from this small district one of the old identities in the person of Mr Joseph Reeves, who passed away at his residence on Monday evening last in his 56th year after a lingering illness which for many years had incapacitated him from taking part in any kind of work, or affairs of a public nature. The late Mr Reeves was the youngest son of the late Mr Benjamin Reeves, Wellington. Mr Reeves had been connected with the Blackburn district for many years, starting as a farmer in early life, an occupation which he followed uninterruptedly and with success. Mr Reeves leaves a widow and five children, Private Frank Reeves (on active service), Alfred Reeves, Mrs B. Doar (Auckland), and Misses Bertha and Winnie Reeves, and a host of real friends to sincerely mourn the loss they have sustained. The funeral took place today at Onga Onga cemetery, and was conducted by the Oddfellows, the late Mr Reeves being one of the old members of the Loyal Ruahine Lodge, Tikokino.

The following defaced stamps have been received for the Poor Children’s Plate of Porridge Fund:—“A Friend” 216, Alfred Reeves 400, Janet Aikman 320.
