THE POPE’S NOTE.
NOT APPROVED IN GERMANY. AMSTERDAM, August 20. The papers generally are unfavorable to the Papal Note as inconsistent with Germany’s interests. The “Tageszeitung” says the note simply means Germany’s ruin. The “Vossische Zeitung” says that Germany will readily solve the Belgian question in conformity with the Pope’s wishes, but France must give up all hopes of Alsace-Lorraine. Peace must bring equilibrium for all.
