OTANE.

PATRIOTIC AND RED CROSS WORK. (Own Correspondent). On Tuesday night the fortnightly meeting of the Patriotic League was held in the Town Hall, Mr J. J. Langridge in the chair. The secretary, Mr P. J. Sefton, reported that he had communicated with the camp commandant at Fcatherston, suggesting that in view of the approach of winter each man be supplied with an extra blanket. This suggestion had been acceded to, and the officer in charge wrote thanking the society for the suggestion. It was unanimously decided that the society reeommen 1 the application of W. Jenkins, a returned soldier, for a loan from the central executive to enable him to take up a dairying section. The chairman stated that Mr C. Christensen, the first volunteer to go from Otane, was returning invalided about the 17th inst., and it was decided that he he suitably entertained, a special committee being set up for that purpose. At the conclusion of the meeting ( lie following proposition, proposed by Mr P. .1. Sefton and seconded by Mr Cleary, was carried unanimously:— “That an Otane sub-branch of the New Zealand branch of the Amalgamated British Red Cross and St. John Ambulance Association be formed, the organisation of which Miss Mundell is the head to be asked to co-operate.” In proposing the motion Mr Sefton explained the necessary steps to he taken, and paid a warm tribute to the services rendered by Miss Mundell. After some discussion it was recommended that Mrs J. Tod be president and Miss Mundell secretary of the branch, and that these ladies draw up a constitution to be submitted to a public meeting to be held on the 23rd inst.

The usual monthly parcel collected by Miss Mundell for the Red Cross Association has been forwarded to Mrs Moorhouse this week. The lisl of articles and donors will appear in my next letter.
