Magistrate’s Court.
(Before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M ) police cases Stanley Cowley was charged with having neglected to bury a dead cow which had boen killed by the dofeudant and left near a public road. He pleaded guilty and was fined £1 and costs Thomas Blank was charged with permitting a dead cow to be ou his ground near the Waipukurau public road, and permitting the animal to be a public nuisauoe. Ho pleaded guilty. Mr Hewitt, for the defendant, said that Ocwley bad asked perra ssion to shoot a cow and to leave it ou Blank’s property, as it would be f»Jod for Blank's dogs. Defendant oonsentod but did not know until lator that the animal had beeu left so near the road. He was convicted and discharged. John Anderson was charged with hav ing used indecent language at Onga Onga, on the Bth of March, in a public place, to wit on the verandah of the Saudford Hotel, Defendant elected to be dealt with by the court, on the Magistrate explaining that defeud&nt had the right to have the case heard at the Bupreme Court. A. Woods gave evidence that the language, without provocation, was used towards him by tbe defendant There was no grievanoe or reason why the defendant should have so aoted. R. Staunton, barman, gave evidence that be heard Woods called a orawler, but oould swear to no other words used Both were cquabbling over something. Mr W. Nicholson, representing Kenr.edy and Lusk, appeared for tbe licensee, and elicited that the licensee had no time to interfere and stop the language, as Woods, after c< m plaining, left immediately for tho police Defendant, who ploided not guilty, did not give evidence as to the ocourrenoe, except to say that he had a grievance against Woods The Magistrate raid that tho'e was no excuse for the language used, and convicting defendant fined him £2 and costs.
