A fire occurred at tho Elmdorp Stud, Loxingham, Kentucky, and 32 thoroughbred brood mares, including Toque (Rubio’s half-sister) and 11 foals perished.
The losses of British insurance companies by tho fire at Boston, U.S.A. total £325,000. The Royal Company lost £IOO,OOO, Norwich Union £40,000 and Northern Assurance £30,000. Monzie Castle, in Perthshire, tenanted by Mr James Richmond, an Australian, has been burned. The damage is estimated at £23,000. Many art treasures were destroyed.
