Piripiri Block.

[Per Press Association.] Wellington, Yesterday.

Mr Hall asked the Minister for Lands to-day whether he would arrange with the lessees of the Piripiri block, Hawko’s Bay, to enter and proceed with the subdivision of tho laud into suitable sections for settlement.

The Minister replied as follows The Piripiri block contains 16,125 aores. tho freehold of which has been acquired by the Grown from tho native owners. At present the block is under loaso to Messrs Rathbone and Guy until December, 1907, and Beveral sawmills have been ereoted on the property. As, however, no objsotion has been made to the survey being proceeded with, instruo tions to that effect have been given to the Chief Surveyor of Hawke’s Bay, and as soon as the weather is suitable a Government officer will be detailed to put the survey iu hand with a view to tho sub-division of the block and its opening for settlement as soon as the Government can obtain possession.
