Kaikora District School.
Tho annnal picnic in connection with tho Knikorn District Scfiool wus hold yesterday, in Mr J. Collins’ paddock adjoining the bush. There was a full muster of children and a large number of parents, visitors, and exscholars wore also present. All enjoyed themselves in the usual pionic fashion till lunch time, after which a number of races were run, including ruces for young ladies and young men. After another round of games tea was dispensed and then tho prizes for the past yoar’s work were distributed. Mr W. White, chairman of the committoe, addressing the parents and children, said they had ronson for congratulation on the vory successful year the school had just concluded, and on behalf of all complimented the teaching staff for their work, lloforring to prizes, tho chairman explained that every prize represented a reward for some special effort by the pupils and that prizoß had to bo worked for. Thoso who got no prize must find the explanation in their bad attendance, lack of diligence at school, or failure to learn thoir home lessons, and that if these wishod to win a prize next yea t they must mend their wayß. The chairman called for cheers for the ladies, who, with Mrs J. Stevens at the head, had so ably managed the provisions for the picnic; also for the teachors for thoir school work and for the excellent con eert which provided for the prizes; for Mr Jas. Collins, who had lent his grounds for the pionic, and for the other gentlemen who had assisted with donations and labour. Mr White then wished all a merry Christmas and a pleasant holiday. Mr Ingloton called for three cheers for the best committee in Hawke’s Buy, and the hearty response showed the estimation in which the local committee are held. The following is tho prize list: — Dux of the Bchool, Owen Evans. Best shot in the school cadets, Wilfred Hicks (silver medal).
