Takapau School Concert.

(Own Correspondent) The school concert by school Children in aid of the school, given on Wednesday night, filled the local commodious hall to overflowing. There is no doubt that when an entertainment is given at Takapau in any way connected with the school, the children’s uncles, aunts, cousins, sisters and brothers roll up in greut style, and on Wednesday night they were well rewarded for their attendance. The programme consisted of choruses, recitations, duels, solos, sketches, and physical drill. Unlike most school concerts, the latter item was not in excess, but just enough to show the proficiency of both girls and boys. Perhaps the best of the choruses was “ Swinging ” in the first part, and the “ Fan Song ” by girls in tho second pari. In the latter item the girls appeared in Chinese dross and used their fans with capital effect. “ Ten Little Nigger Boys ” was also well performed by the boys, the regular disappearance of tho niggorß, one after the other, and the just as rogulur appearance of their boots, cause great amusement. Little Violet West and Nora Tuohy were both successful in their recitations, us also were OMho Eldorshaw and Nellie Blair in “ You Shan’t Play in my Yard.” The military sketches, “Corporal Muggins ” and “ General Inspection,” showed Corporal Paulsen to be one of the strictest of army disciplinarians, and in the latter sketch a little midget, Master Blair, appeared as the general, resplendent in gold lace and cocked hat. He expressed to Corporal Paulsen his satisfaction of the general appourance and Binartness of his men. The girls in the club exercises, and the boys with the dumb-bells, showed careful training, tho various movements being most regular. “ God Save the King ” brought a most successful entertain ment to a close.

Mr Caughley and his assistants, Miss J. Kllinghuin and Mr Martin, deserve unstinted praise for their careful training of the children, and I am confident tho patronage of so largo an audience and the appreciation evinced at tho success of the children, would be considered by tlmiu as ample reward for their patience aud perseverance. A lady that must not bo forgotten, and who assisted the teachers iii tho training of the children in no small degree, was Mrs Caughley, the esteemed wife of tho head teacher. This lady ulso played tho whole of tho accompaniments throughout tho very pleasant evening.
