TO STAND THIS SEASON AT ASHLET-OLINTON, THE THOROUGHBRED RACING SIRE TURQUOISE TURQUOISE is a brown borse, with excellent quality and of good bone and substance, suitable for getting high-class Hacks and Steeplechasers as well as Thoroughbred Flat Racers of the first order. He was bred by Mr Samuel Gardiner, of Bundoora Park, Victoria, and is got by Tubal Cain from Topaz, a descendant of that great Juliet blood which has given to Australia more first-class race-horses than any other strain in the colonies. Martini-Henri, Nordenfeldt, Sardonyx, First Water, Goldsborongh, Robin Hood, Robiuson Crusoe (sire of Trident and Navigator), and a host of other good ones are all descended from this family. It will be seen from the following tabulated pedigree that Turquoise comes from the best strains of blood in the world : TURQUOISE has proved himself to be a good performer on the Turf, having at all distances and under heavy weights carried his colors to victory. As a three-year-old he was thought to be almost as good as that champion Welcome Jack. The following are some of his principal performances : —Won Stewards’ Handicap, six furlongs, at the C J.C. Spring Meeting 1884, carrying 7st 101 b ; won Taranaki J.C. Handicap, 2 miles, at T.J.C. Autumn Meeting, 1885, carrying Bst 101 b ; won Easter Handicap, If mile, and Autumn Handicap, 1J mile, at the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting, 1885, carrying list Jib and 9st 101 b respectively ; won Ladies’ Bracelet at A .R.C. Steeplechase Meeting, 1887, carrying 12st ; won Consolation Handicap at H.B.J.C. TO STAND THIS SEASON AT HOMEWOOD, NEAR KAIKORA, The Thoroughbred Stallion RAGLAN (Bred by Major George.) IS a dark brown horse, 15 hands 3 inches high, 8 years old. RAGLAN was sired by Cap-a pie, by Maribyrnong—Mias Magus, whose cross-country stock are favourably known. Tenambra, the dam of Raglan, was a highly-brod mare, and ran five seconds in Auckland. She was sired by that grand horse, The Marquis, and two of the races he won were the classic English Two Thousand Guineas and the St. Leger. Tenambra, by The Marquis out of Lady Manners—Suttin, by Pitsford (imp) out of Green Linnet ; Green Linnet, by Delapro (imp), out of Kate Kearney ; Kate Kearney by Rory O’More (imp), out of Daglione (imported thoroughbred Irish hunter). The Marquis by Stockwell (son of the Baron) out of Cioizelli ; Cinizelli by Touchstone out of Brocade ; Brocade by Pantaloon out of Bombazine ; Bombazine by Thunderbolt out of Delta ; Delta by Alexander. When on the turf, RAGLAN proved himself a thorough honest horse and a lirst-class stayer, able to last to the end of a Cup race, c arrying weight and defeuting the best horses in Auckland. In sprint races he showed his pace by beating performers like Teksutn (who won races against the best horses in Australia), Cissy, and others. RAGLAN staitud twice as a two year-old, running second to Leopold in the Nursery {Stakes. As a three-year-old he started in three races, running second to Hilda in the Aucklaud Guineas, and second to Tartar (6st 51b) in the Christmas Handicap. As a four-year-old, he won the Maiden Piute at Otahuhu, and on the same day won the Cup. At the Onehuuga Spring Meeting won the Cup, carrying Bst 101 b ; Auckland Spring Meeting, won the Prince of Wales’ Handicap, beating Leopold, Lady Norah, Leorina, and others. At the same meeting next day won the City Handicap, 1£ mile, carrying 9st, in the fast time of 2min 12£ sec, Leopold (Bst 51b), second, (winner of the Aucklaud Cup), Cissy (Bst lib) third. Same day won the Welter Handicap, carrying list, and defeating a Held of eight. Won Jubilee Cup of 250 sovs, beating Hilda (Bst 91b), Antelope and others. Same day won the Flying Handicap of 100 sovs, defeating Teksum, Lochness and others. As it will be seen RAGLAN is a suitable horse to breed from to get racehorses and fust cross-country stock, and if put to ; roomy active mares to get weight-carry- ! ing hacks and active harness horses.
