Norsewood School Committee.

The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Monday evening. Present—Messrs Fredericksen (chair). Anderson, Gundersen, Stenberg, and Wahl (secretary). The Headmaster reported that the school had been re-opened on January 25. The attendance for the week had averaged 90 out of a roll number of 143. There had, however, been a very good attendance that day. He suggested that application be made to the Education Board for a clock, writing-desk, and chair, as recommended by the Inspector. The Chairman reported that the meeting called to nominate candidates to the Education Board had lapsed. He had received

a letter from the secretary of the Horticultural Society on the 26th January, asking the Committee to grant a holiday on Show Day, but as the show took place on the 29th, there was no time to call a

meeting. He had spoken to some of the members and they agreed to leave the matter in the hands of the Headmaster.

Mr Webber "explained that |ihe school had just recommenced work and he thought it unadvisable to grant the holiday. With reference to stationery fees, the Chairman said that some one in Norsewood had written to a Napier paper, asking if he was compelled to pay the fees, and the editor had advised the writer not to pay the fees, and should the children of the correspondent suffer in consequence he was advised to take proceedings to protect his children.—Mr Webber said the fees

went to the prize fund, and the fact that they came in very regularly showed that parents did not object to pay them.—No action taken. It was agreed to ask the Education Board to appoint Miss Wahl as ex-pupil teacher. The result of the pupil-teachers’ examination was read, showing that Miss Anderson in her second year gained 978 marks

out of a possible 1430 ; Miss Hilda Pettersen, in her 3rd year, 847, and Miss Wahl, 4th year, 1056. The work done was considered very satisfactory and creditable to the school teachers, and the coogratu-

lations of the Committee were ordered to be conveyed to the pupil teachers through the Headmaster.

It was resolved to hold a special meeting as soon as the nominations to the Education Board are complete, the idea being to endeavour to obtain concerted action amongst the country committees to return the men considered most likely to further and watch over their interests.

After the accounts had been passed for payment, Messrs Stenberg and Wahl were appointed a visiting committee and the meeting adjourned.
