Cricket.
The good old game of cricket, which appeared to have died a natural death so far as Waipawa was concerned, was [revived yesterday for the time being, when a junior fifteen met a senior eleven lon the old ground in Mr A. Scrimgeour’s [paddock. Despite the fact that little or no practice had been indulged in, some [really good play was exhibited, and showed that Waipawa could still put a [good team in the field to do battle for the Kietrict. Indeed, if one idea was para■nount yesterday, it was the fact that ■here is no occasion whatever for Wai fcawa to be without its club ; and we hope ■hat, when another season comes round, lur young men will take steps to keep the ■grand old game to the fore. There is plenty of talent, and it remains for them to say if they have the necessary energy. ■The seniors were the first to bat ; but, pith the exception of W. J. Witherow, P. Eosgrove, Bennett, and Dr Godfray, no treat stand was made, and the innings Eloaed for 73 tuds. The Juniors, in their krst attempt, only managed to put together ■he small total of 38, and followed on. In their second attempt, however, they did ■ar better, and succeeded in making 81, fe Skerrett being credited with 33, kbtained by really good play. Besides Ekerrett, several of the Juniors showed ■bat they had tho real stuff in them, and ■hat the future of cricket, so far as Wailawa is concerned, may be safely left in ■heij hands. With 47 required to wiu, ■he Seniors again started to bat, and made ■he required number with the loss of four pickets only, H. Rathbone and W. J. ■Vitherow being responsible for the Majority of the runs. Undismayed by ■heir defeat, and actuated by the true Spirit of cricket, the Juniors are anxious ■or a return match, which, we hope, will Be played at at early date.
