A rather peculiar fix occurred at a special meeting of the County Council jailed for yesterday. The Chairman, who was appointed during his absence at the last meeting,',declined to act, and tendered his resignation. No member could bo induced to accept the position, as it is thought the Council will collapse in a month or two, and they do not want to have the fag end ofthework. Eventually,

after about an hour’s discussion, five names of councillors agreeable to the course were put in a hat and drawn, the lot falling on Mr C. R. Summerville, who was then elected chairman.
