FERTILIZER PRICES
EFFECT OK PRODUCTION ———l*l TE MIRO FARMERS HOLD MEETING There was a large attendance of district farmers at an address given in Te Miro on Tuesday evening by Mr F. Smith, president of the Waikato Province of Federated Farmers, in connection with the price of fertilizer and the new meat. schedule. An explanation was given by Mr Smith of the present position, which the meeting considered was unsatifactory. It was felt that the farmers Would have to cut down on the purchases of manure, thus necessitating a reduction of stock and lower output.
,The meeting decided in favour of the abolition of subsidies, but considered that the high cost of fertilizer would have an adverse effect on the production of food for Great Britain. * It was decided that a remit be sent to the Provincial, Executive asking for the immediate .establishment of a committee to collect specific data as to increased costs and reduced production on the farm. Mr Max Hewitt, chairman of ,the Te Miro Branch of Federated Farmers, presided, and Mr Smith was thanked for his address.
