Mr Lewis Issues a Courteous Challenge
“This is a courteous challenge to the young business men of Cambridge to seek the vacancy,” said Mr S. Lewis, at Wednesday night’s meeing of the borough council, when he intimated that he would not be a candidate at the forthcoming municipal elections in November. Mr Lewis pointed out that the next council meeting would be the last before the election. He offered the information that he would -not be standing in an endeavour to create more interest.
“Is that a lead for the rest of the council to express their intentions ? ” asked Mr W. R. Garrard. When Mr Lewis’replied in the negative, there was no information coming from the rest of the councillors. The Deputy-Mayor, Mr Mervyn Wells, expressed his regret that Mr Lewis would not be standing again. * * i * * LEAMINGTON CHAIRMAN IS ALSO RETIRING When we interviewed Mr Jack Blackman, chairman of the Leamington Town Board, yesterday he stated that, definitely, he would not be seeking reelection at the forthcoming elections. Mr Blackman’s reason for retiring is that he cannot afford to give the considerable amount of time such responsibility entails.
