PARIS FASHIONS
BRIGHTER CLOTHES FOR MEN The use of bright colour and design in clothing will no longer be exclusive to women's garments if the men's wear at present being produced by French tailors and outfitters becomes popular in other countries. Tired of years of semi-standardised sobriety in men's clothes, they are determined to put an end to monotony and give men something to talk about when they restock 'their wardrobes, states a message from Paris received recently by the New Zealand Wool Board. Experienced men's stylists are suggesting wool battle-dress jackets with short sleeves for holiday clothes. These are on sale now in Paris with red collars and sleeves, while the otner parts' are cheeked, red, green, and white, sometimes with the back entirely white. Fine wool poplin shorts appeal to women as well as to men, and the latest fashion idea is for a man and his wife to have ' shirts made to match. Often suits are made of matching tweed. The newest sports shirts catering to this type of trade are in finely checked woollens with small pockets on the sleeves, just above the elbows.
Waistcoats are a highlight of fashion just now. So decorative and fanciful have they become that many tailors are leaving them entirely to the shirtmakers and men's outfitters. Shepherd's plaid worsted waistcoats are displayed to tone with snorts outfits. Yellow and black checked waistcoats are also being made in Paris, and canary waistcoats have already won a following.
