ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED. The engagement is announced between Colin William David, youngest son of Mrs B. Clark, and the late Mr A. R. Clark, of Cambridge, and Justine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs D. J. Lundon, of Cambridge. BIRTHDAY PARTY. LITTLE DIANE ANCELL. Mrs Cleave AnceU, of Vogel Street, gave a lovely “Rainbow” birthday party last week for small daughter Diane. Fun and frolic were the order of the day and each child received a dainty organdie hat. Those present were Justine Haworth, Natalie Haworth, Judith Kenny, Jenifer Petersen, Robin Davis, Judy Benn, Flora McMillan, Lois McMillan, Joan McCathie, Marie Gibbs, Peggy Moreland and Gillian Morrice. LYE—MORSE The marriage took place on Saturday, March 23, at St. George’s Church of England, Thames, of Miss Daphne Mavis Morse, of Thornton’s Bay (formerly of Leamington, Cambridge) and Mr Albert William Lye (returned after four and a-half years overseas), son of Mr and Mrs F. Lye, of Cambridge. The Rev. K. R. R. Small officiated. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a graceful gown of ivory cloque, cut on Princess lines, with a heart shaped neck-line and long close fitting sleeves coming to a point oyer the hand. The back was finished with a row of small buttons and the skirt fell to form an oval train over which a beautiful embroidered tulle veil was held in place with a spray of white begonias and she carried a shower bouquet of white cactus dahlias carnations, and maiden-hair fern. Her attendant as Matron of Honour was her cousin, Mrs K. Tagg, of Wellington, who wore a powder blue frock of matt crepe made on similar lines to that of the bride’s. She wore a spray of gold charm dahlias in her hair to match the bouquet she carried. The bridegroom was attended by his brother W. 0.11. W. S- Lye, of Wellington. The bride’s mother received the guests wearing a black and white Angora suit with hat to match. The bridegroom’s mother wore a black ensemble with black hat. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Ritz dining rooms. For travelling the bride chose a suit of old gold crepe under a fur coat with black accessories. W.D. FARMERS’ FEDERATION. THE CAMBRIDGE BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Cambridge branch of the W.D.F.F. was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday, there being a good attendance. Mrs H. Jackson presided. Letters were read from England, on the conditions and food problems, and Corso matters were discussed and received. The roll call was very interesting, being holiday memories. A basket of vegetables donated by Mrs Hanna was won by Miss Pearce. The floral section as usual was well patronised, results being: Single bloom: Mrs Hanna 1, Mrs Archer 2, Mrs Parsons 3. Posy of flowers: Mrs Woodroffe 1, Mrs Archer 2, Mrs J. Cooper 3. Three hen’s eggs. Mrs Webster 1, Mrs J. Cooper 2, Mrs Windsor 3. Hand-knitted article: Mrs Schwass 1, Mrs G. Cooper 2. Basket of vegetables: Mrs Hanna 1. The Hostesses were Mesdanu'.s Cleland, Schwass, Campin and Feisst. MONAVALE DANCE. HALL COMMITTEE FUNCTION (Own Correspondent) Last Thursday night the Monavale . Hall was the scene of another of the popular dances organised by the hall committee. Novetly dances were won by Miss Clare Jenkins and Mr Norman Ganly and Miss Ngaire Smith and Mr J. Grimshaw. Extras were played by Misses Clare and Lorrace Jenkin. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr C. Todd. Among .those present: Mesdames Don Clemow, Gibbons, Uttinger, Crisp, Misses, Evelyn Uttinger, Ngaire Smith,' Kath. Fisher, Clare Jenken; Eileen Gibbons, Kath. Warren, Joan Uttinger, Laura Jenken, Mollie Kernoghan, Pat Uttinger, Laurel Easter. Jean Fisher, Colleen Kernoghan, Lorrace Jenken,' Alma Williamson, Roselle Singalton, Missan. “WHITE RIBBONS”' ,CRADLE ROLL PARTY The monthly meeting of the Cambridge Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday last in the Methodist Hall when a large number of members and friends attended. The business part was short, for a Cradle Roll party had been arranged for the Little White Ribboners. A happy crowd of children attended and enjoyed on the lawn, where games were in progress and ice cream was served. Later, in the hall, they entertained the audience with songs and recita-

\ tions, wearing coloured paper hats. A pianoforte solo was given by Miss Pennell, who also was a capable accompanist to Miss Ruth McLellan. Recitations were given by Shirley Higgins and the Misses Miller. Four of the girls sang two unaccompanied Maori songs, which were enjoyed. Mrs Weston gave a talk on Pioneer Temperance Women. A delightful afternoon tea was served, after which the President farewelled Mrs Weston who is leaving the district. The afternoon closed with the benediction. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. ROTO-O-RANGI ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Roto-o-rangi Women’s Institute was held in the local hall, when Mrs W. Wakefield extended a cordial welcome to members. The secretary, Mrs L. Duncan, presented a comprehensive annual report. The financial report presented by Mrs Dahlberg showed a satisfactory balance and both ladies were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Wakefield, in her speech, payed a tribute to members of the committee, who had so loyally given their uttermost support in helping to further the welfare of the Institute. Mrs Wakefield is retiring from the presidency this year after 10 successive by members was the splendid. service served with honour and distinction especially during the difficult war years.
Mrs F. Cleland, the newly elected president, said how much appreciated by members was teh splendid service rendered by Mrs Wakefield especially time spent so capably representing the Institute on organisations outside the district. Mrs Cleland presented beautiful bouqtiets to Mesdames Wakefield, Duncan and Dahlberg. Mrs Cleland then invited suggestions for the birthday celebrations to be held in April. Mrs M. Martin gave the following motto: “You can’t construct a working policy out of nothing but grievances.” Good suggestions were forthcoming from the roll call “What I would like in next year’s programme.” A hearty vote of thanks,was accorded Mr T. Hampshire for services rendered.
