SYDNEY TRAINEE

FARM BOUGHT AT CAMBRIDGE J. T. JAMIESON’S PURCHASE Mr J. T. Jamieson, of Sydney, the well-known horse trainer, has purchased a block of 250 acres of land from the Edward Allen Estate at Pukekura, and will take over in surveyed and a nice house built upon it. A son of the trainer will farm the property, but Mr Jamieson, senr., intends to spend a good deal of his time there. He will probably keep several of his brood mares there, and also spell some of the New Zealand horses there after they have returned from racing in Australia. It is well-known that horses going from the Dominion, always race well in Australia, but they fail to do well when coming from Australia to New Zealand. Mr Jamieson is a New Zealander, who has met with considerable success as a trainer. About ten years

ago he went to Australia and has continued to be among the most prominent trainers there. He has taken over a number of New Zealand horses that have been sent to race in Australia, notably among these in recent years being High Caste and Malagigi. First negotiations for the purchase of the Pukekura property were made by Mr Jamieson when he came to New Zealand last month 1 to race Malagigi in the Centennial Cup, and to attend the yearling sales. Malagigi failed at, his only start. At the sales, Mr Jamieson bought four yearlings at a price totalling 1835 guineas. The highest was 750 guineas for a brown colt by Foxbridge—Speedmint, and the others were 600 guineas for a bay colt by Pantheon—Goorabul; 375 guineas for a brown colt by Tiderace —Auratum; and 110 guineas for a brown colt by Bulandshar —Mandy Lu.
