TROTTING

THE WAIKATO MEETING PROSPECTS FOR SATURDAY Excellent acceptances have been received for the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting at Claudelands on Saturday, and good racing should result. Cambridge is fairly well represented with Leeleeta, Great Guy, Frontier Boy, Mattie Herbilwyn, Tangaroa, Lady Amanda, Marcus, Bold Venture, Aurumar, Decoy Bird and Uenuku. Prospects are:

11.30 Trotters, limit 3.49, H miles: Glen Bingen, Great Guy—Leeleeta bracket, Gold Kip. 12.10—Eureka Handicap, limit 3.5, 11 miles: Smith’s bracket, Grand Dame, Excel. 12.50—Tamahere Handicap, limit 3.38, H miles: Axminster, Artist’s Gem, Lady Potts. I.3o—Burch Handicap, limit 4.38, 2 miles: Parauri, Loyal Direct, Elbe Parrish.

2.10 Rukuhia Handicap, limit 4.46, 2 miles: Roma Girl, Bold Venture, Peter Smith. 2.50—-Members’ Handicap, Trotters, limit 4.57, 2 miles: Within, Frontier Boy, Decoy Bird. 3.30 Fraser Smith Handicap, limit 2.47, H miles: Kenworthy, Uenuku, Parauri. 4.10 Visitors’ Handicap, Saddle, limit 2.20, 1 mile: Our Summer, Roma Girl, Lucky Love.

Has Shown Promise One of the most' promising maiden trotters seen on the circuit early this season was Glen Bingen who gained a number of placings, including a head defeat to Gold Kip at Cambridge in January. He had his first race after a spell, at Epsom recently, and should be benefitted as a result. He has good prospects in the opening event, but will find strong opposition from the Cambridge owned and trained Great Guy, who won on the recent southern circuit, and Gold Kip, who showed form for a fast run into fourth place at Epsom. If Worthy Worker maintains a steady gait he should be difficult, while two other Cambridge candidates, Frontier Boy and Mattie Herbilwyn went encouraging races at Epsom. Maiden Pacers There is a great field of maiden pacers' and the issue is very open. Interest will be taken in Smith’s two-year-old Bonnidene, while the limit horses with placings will be favoured. These include Gipsy Light, Excel, Grand Dame, Narbada (Palmerston North trained) and Worthy Quest. The back-markers will find difficulty in passing a field of this size, but handily placed is Kewpie’s Bingen.

Above the Average In Axminster, J. T. Paul, of Mangare has a paced above the average, and the gelding is being raced sparingly. If started in the Tamahere Handicap, he will have a large following. Artist’s Gem is handily placed, while Lady Potts can do better than the - form she showed at Epsom in the heavy going. Reyola, Hillcrest and Hottentot have the best form of the others. The Main Event In the main event, Effie Parrish, Policy, Loyal Direct, Parauri and Sir Frank have form, and from them should come the winner. Parauri’s success at Christchurch will entitle him to solid support, while Loyal Direct is a model of consistency, without having won over the distance. Effie Parrish has winning form from Taranaki circuit, while Policy is due to salute the judge. Another Two-mile Event

A two-mile race in the 4.46 class will be interesting. Roma Girl has been very profitable for her followers and her last success was the Broadway Handicap, of two miles, at the recent Manawatu meeting. Bold Venture is well placed here and the Resistance—Santa Fe bracket is a strong combination. Peter Smith has shown by recent track,; work •< that ’.he is ’ returning to bis best form. Marcus Bedford and the Resistance—Santa Fe bracket may be the best prospects of the remainder. The Second Trot

The two-mile trot has drawn a good field and fancies may take a wide range. Within ran a creditable fourth at Epsom, after having been off the scene for a while. Frontier Boy has pace and will stay the distance, but he does not trot smoothly. If he opens a break on the field, he may be difficult to

head off. The converted pacer, Decoy Bird, has shown enough form for his chances to be considered, and Aurumar, Black Native, Shirley’s Pal and Llanvabon have been fairly recent winners. The Main Sprint It may be the best horse on the day only that will win the Fraser Smith Handicap, of 1J miles. There are many fine performers, the most consistent of which may be Kenworthy, who has been out of a place only once in eight starts. His record includes two wins. Uenuku will be well supported, while Paraiiri, if his handicap is unaltered from the earlier race, will be in demand. Others that perform well are Star Pronto, Our peggy and Navy Blue.

Popular Saddle Event Saddle events are always popular to conclude a meeting, and investors are advised to consider candidates that have previously shown with a rider up. Our Summer has several placings in this class, and Bold Venture, Levity and Roma Girl have been winners. Lucky Love is returning to form, and others to be supported may be place-getters in the Rukuhia Handicap.
