BULK POWER CHARGES

TIME FOR A REDUCTION VIEWS OF VALLEY BOARD That some reduction in bulk power charges should be made by the Government was the opinion expressed at the May meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board. “The board has-now been operating for nearly 20 years,” said the manager, Mr R. Sprague, in his annual report. “No reductions have been made in the bulk charges during that long period. I think it is time some concession was made. The domestic load offers a very large field for developments, and I think some consideration should be given by the Public Works Department so that this load can be cultivated.

“One way in which it could be done is by limiting the high charge for bulk power to certain restricted hours. This would enable supply authorities to develop domestic loads in particular for quite a long time to the benefit of the whole electrical industry.” Members of the board agreed with the manager, and it was decided to approach the Public Works Department with a view to having the rates reduced.
