PRIMARY SCHOOL

CATERING FOR CONSOLIDATION OLD BUILDING UNSUITABLE The fact that the present primary school site and buildings at Cambridge are quite unsuitable for catering for a consolidated school in conjunction with the proposed intermediate school, is contained in a communication sent by Mr D. W. Dunlop, secretary of the Auckland Education Board, to Mr B. Coulter, member for Waikato. The information was taken from the report of the board’s architect, and a copy sent to Mr R. S. Entwistle, secretary of the Cambridge School Committee. The architect recommended that, as a first step towards providing suitable conditions, the property of ten acres owned by Mr A. W. Gane should be acquired. Mr Dunlop stated that in accordance with the architect’s recommendation, the board had applied to the Education Department, Wellington, for a special grant for the acquisition of the site. Intermediate School In connection with the proposals for a new intermediate school on the Secondary department’s site (plans of which were detailed in Saturday’s Independent), further information were gained by Mr R. S. Entwistle when in Auckland last week. He learned from Mr Dunlop that the plans and specifications had been forwarded to the Education Department at Wellington. The cost of the new building would be approximately £25,000. Mr Dunlop stated that the Auckland Board had done everything possible for the present , and the matter now depended upon the Department of Education. Mr Entwistle has since forwarded a letter to Mr Coulter, requesting that he will press the Minister of Education to make an early decision regarding the grant for the building of a new school.
