ANOTHER TAXI
COUNCIL GRANTS LICENSE NO POWER TO LIMIT At the monthly meeting of the council on Thursday evening, an application was received, from Mr E. .1. Stuart for a license to operate a taxi service in Cambridge. Mr Stuart stated that he considered there was ample scope for an additional taxi in Cambridge and gave figures of the ratio of taxis in other towns to the population.
The. three present holders of taxi licenses, Messrs E. Linstrom, T. Worthing and A. B. Cubis forwarded a petition protesting against the granting of an additional license. It was considered by them that the people of Cambridge were amply provided for and that during the winter months there was much less work.
The Town Clerk stated that information had been received from the Municipal Association of New Zealand, which advised that it would be necessary to make a by-law to limit the number of taxi licenses granted. Mr Stuart’s application was granted without comment.
