COLLISION WITH LORRY
CAMBRIDGE RESIDENTS INJURED
ACCIDENT AT HINUERA After meeting a heavy lorry in collision, a light sedan car driven by Mr Andrew McFarlane, of Hautapu, careered into a power pole and •was extensively damaged at Hinuera i on Saturday afternoon, shortly after I 3.30. ? Mr McFarlane was returning from | Tauranga accompanied by Mrs Mc--1 Farlane, when the accident occurred 5 • at the intersection of the Matamata, -1 Tauranga, and Cambridge roads, near Hinuera. The car met a lorry, | i driven by Mr J. J. Dunn, of Okoroire ■on the corner. The vehicles collided, then swerved off the road and rammed two opposite power poles, i Mr McFarlane received facial abrasions, and a sprained shoulder,
while Mrs McFarlane, who was thrown bodily against the dashboard of the car, suffered a fractured rib and extensive bruises to the legs and right arm, besides severe shock. They were admitted to the Whitiora Private Hospital. On enquiry this morning Mrs McFarlane is reported to be improving and her condition is satisfactory. Mr McFarlane was able to leave the
hospital yesterday. The driver of the lorry and his brother, Mr W. F. Dunn, received | mjnor cuts. The lorry was slightly ! damaged. Extensive damage was done to the oar, which was battered on the light hand side. The bonnet was | badly smashed and the engine j wrenched back. Fortunately the windscreen did not shatter, otherwise injuries may have been more serious. The car was towed to Cambridge by the Cambridge Service Station. t - r TAXI-CAB OVERTURNS ACCIDENT NEAR CAMBRIDGE When returning from Rotorua last evening a new-model sedan taxi, driven by Mr J. Gyde, of Hamilton, overturned on the Hamilton Road, near St. Peter’s School, at about six .o’clock. Just past Peake’s Road, the motorcar ran off the road, crashed into the rising ground on the right and swerved sideways across the road to the grass on the left-hand side, ''-•'-■vwjhere the vehicle overturned. /A' passenger, Miss Eva Lockie, aged 25, of Hamilton East, received slight head injuries, and was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. Her condition is not serious. The driver and one other passenger, Miss Robinson, of Hamilton, escaped uninjured, but suffered from shock. ■I The car was slightly damaged. CAR AND LORRY COLLIDE VEHICLES EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED. Thick clouds of dust obscuring the vision were the cause of a collision between a car and a lorry on the Karapiro highway about seven miles from Cambridge last evening. A sedan motor-car, driven by Mr Arthur J. Williamson, of Hamilton, was travelling towards Cambridge, when it met a heavy motor truck, driven by Mr George E. Bradburn, of Putaruru, proceeding towards Tirau. The impact was heavy and both vehicles were damaged extensively. Sirs Bradburn, the wife of the lorry-driver, suffered a severe cut on the head.
The driver of the car and two passengers, Mrs Williamson, and Mrs Nicholson, escaped injury. ,1. . CAR OYER BANK \ ACCIDENT AT HORAHORA A party of motorists bound for Rotorua from Auckland on Saturday overturned off the road when the driver failed to negotiate a corner. None of the occupants of the car was injured, but the vehicle, a new six-cylinder sedan, was damaged, The driver turned off the main . road towards Horahora .in order to meet friends. When approaching the Horahora Bridge over the Waikato River, another car was driving * off the bridge. The Auckland motorist in an effort to avoid collision and at the same time to gain the bridge, skidded, left the road, and overturned over the small bank beside the bridge.. ACCIDENT AT HAUTAPU On Sunday afternoon an eightcylinder sedan car, driven by Mr W. C. Wallace, of Fencourt, was slighl- , ly damaged in the radiator when it left the road at Hautapu, as a result of a blow-out, and careered Into scrub and blackberry. Neither the driver nor his family, who were passengers, were injured.
