Sir Charles Statham, Speaker of the House of Representatives and member for Dunedin Centra!, has. decided not io contest the seat at the forthcoming general election. Sir Charles, who first entered Parliament in 191.1, was elect-
ed a Speaker in 1023, holding the office for the past twelve years. He was the first New Zealand-born Speaker.
