PICTURE LICENSE
(To the Editor). Sir, —I fail to see how the action of the Cambridge Borough Council can find endorsement by the people of the town and district in their opposition to an up-to-date picture house being established in Cambridge. Much could be said regarding such a short-sighted policy. Suffice it.to be noted that our public body is evidently blind to the' progress of the town. Trusting others will voice an opinion on this subject,. Yours, etc., PROGRESS. [ln our issue of Saturday, 20th July, details of the negotiations regarding the establishment of a new picture theatre, in Cambridge were set out in detail. It. was mentioned that the original arrangement was between Messrs Iverridge and Co., of Gisborne, and Mr T. F. Richards, owner of the site. At. last week’s meeting of the Borough. Council, it- was reported that Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., the present lessees of the Town Hall had applied for the issue of a license for the new theatre. The council favoured the transfer of the existing license to a new theatre on the conditions set out. —Ed., Independent.]
