DROWNED IN RIVER

K FATALITY AT HAMILTON YOUNG MAN'S DEATH While swimming in the Waikato River yesterday afternoon, Mr Leslie -Tohn Lovegrove, aged about, 20, of 139 Grey Street, Hamilton East, became exhausted and was'drowned. Mr Lovegrove was swimming near the traffic bridge and was nearly in mid-stream when several bathers on the bank heard him call for help. Mr P. Cassidy went to his assistance and readied him when he was in a semiconscious condition and sinking. After bringing Mr Lovegrove part of the way to the shore Mr Cassidy became exhausted, and was forced to release his hold. -,' Mr Lovegrove then 'sank .in ;about Bft of water and other attempt;; to rescue him failed. The police were informed and recovered the body about an hour later.
