Mr F. Mack was unanimously elected chairman of the Ipoard, in place iof ■■ the late Mr T. A. Hicks. ... r;■ Mr A. E. Peppercorn was re appoint-! cd deputy-chairman. The chairman extended a. welcome to, the new member, Mr Thos. Hounslow, who returned thanks and said he would do all he could in the interests of Leamington. The Waipa County Council wr* te stating that it could not ‘ see its way to hand over the rates collected from he property occupied by Wallace Bros. The council also pointed out that it was taking the whole of the traffic from the Maungatautari district without receiving any contribution from the adjoining county ratepayers. Mr Brock expressed surprise at the reply from Waipa. Ho said he ' had seen the riding member, Mr J. S. Fisher, who had considered-the board’s claim was just. If the Town Board did not allow Wallace Bros, use of the right of way, it would be much more expensive for the county to provide an entrance for them. It was decided that Messrs Mack and Brock meet Mr Fisher and discuss the matter further. The secretary said that Mr H. Roche had discussed the matter of completing the rc-survey of the board’s area, which was commenced several years ago by Government surveyors and never finished. Board members agreed that it was necessary to have the work done and it was decided to ask Mr Roche to explain the details in writing. Accounts totalling £IOB 17/10 were passed for payment. The overdraft at the bank was stated to be at £328. The secretary reported that the amount spent on drains, through unemployed labour being used, had been only £lB for the past two years. Previously, from £3O to £6O annually had been allowed on the estimates for drain cleaning. Mr Hounslow mentioned that the unformed portion of Burns Street was very bad and several lorries had been stuck there , recently. The chairman said the work had already been approved and would be carried out in the near future. Mr Blackman said there were a number of frontages that had not been cleaned of gorse.' The secretary stated that notices had boon sent to all offenders but only two had attempted to carry out tho work. It was suggescd that a summons should be sent m several cases. DOMAIN BOARD DEPUTATION FROM TENNIS CLUB V . The same members then sat as the Leamington Domain Board. Mr E. Hill waited on the board from the Leamington Tennis Club, asking for permission and support for the hard-surfacing of two of the club’s courts. The total cost was estimated at between £65 and £BS. The Tennis Club requested that the board provide the gravel and assist with the. provision of unemployed labour. The club ■would employ, two qualified men. It was proposed to commence the work immediately and the opening day would be delayed until the work was carried out. Members thought that it was up to the board to assist the Tennis Club, but doubt was expressed as to whether unemployed labour would be allowed for such work. The secretary pointed out that where new development work was being carried out, unemployed men would be available. The chairman thought it would be more satisfactory if ordinary labour be employed and the board grant a sum to the Tennis Club. It was decided to provide the gravel for the work and subsidise two unemployed men while the work was being carried out. The secretary, Cambridge Primary Schools’ Rugby Association wrote thanking the board for use of the Domain for the annual football and basketball tournaments. Accounts totalling £27 9/o were passed for payment.
