DWELLING DESTROYED

ANOTHER FIRE AT LEAMINGTON MR W. G. CARE BURNT OUT A five-roomed liousc in Moore Street, Leamington, together with the contents, was totally destroyed by fire shortly after 1 a.m. yesterday morning. The dwelling was occupied by Mr W. G. Care, and owned by the Crown Lands Department. At the time of the fire, Mrs Care was in Rotorua on holiday, though Mr Caro and a son were in tho house. Mr Care retired r '4t about 10.15. There had been a fairly big fire in the kitchen range and-also in the living room, but everything appeared in order. He was awakened by the noise of the hotwater cistern!'and found his bedroom full of smoke. Rushing into the passage, he saw that the whole of the kitchen was ablaze. Mr Care and .his son had ( only time to get togethei-; a” few clothes before being forced to leave the burning building. The whole of the furniture and contents were ’ destroyed, including a valuable library. Tho fire caused a vivid glare in the southern sky, and there w r as much speculation at the Rugby Ball as to its location. Several car-loads visited the blaze,' but it v r as impossible to do anything but stand by and watch the roaring flames and the thick, curling -smoke clouds.

Tho figures of tlio insurance on the house arc not available, but the furniture and effects ivere covered in the Royal Exchange Office for £2OO. Yesterday morning’s fire was the fourth outbreak in Leamington within the past six months.
