PRESENTATION AT BALL PRESIDENT’S REMARKS At the annual ball of the Cambridge Rugby Union on Thursday evening, the president, Mr H. Cubis, presented the cups and trophies won during the year. Mr Cubis said it was gratifying to the union to see such a representative gathering present and it reflected on the popularity of football in Cambridge. The great improvement in the standard of football this season was mentioned by the president. He w r as proud of the Cambridge footballers. . Mr Cubis thanked the public for the way the union had been supported this season. Ho also tendered thanks to tlio ladies’ committee and all responsible for the arrangements of the ball. The first, trophies to bo presented were the R-ickit Cup and Senior Banner. Mr Cubis congratulated United on the success of their young team and said their win was a credit to the officers of tho club. Mr B. Hughes accepted the trophies. Tho Fleming Shield was presented to Northern, and Mr Cubis congratulated them on the way they always played the game. The Junior Championship Cup and Fitzgerald Shield were accepted for the Leamington Club by Mr Goof. Garland. Mr Cubis remarked on the evenness of this competition. • Good football had been played by the third-grade this season, said the president, in congratulating Leamington on their win. The third-grade Cup and Banner were accepted by Mr A. Dray. Medals Presented Mr Cubis then presented medals given to the union by Mr P. J. Sefton and Mr S. Lewis. The medal for the best back was won by Mr Hugh Peake and for the best forward by Mr Fred Shaw. Mr Lewis’s medal for tho most improved forward was won by Mr Percy Beer. Tho ceremony concluded with three cheers for the donors of the medals.
