RELIEF LABOUR

PUBLIC BODIES’ POLICY CRITICISM BY TOWN BOARD At the monthly meeting of the Leamington Town Board on Tuesday, the secretary reported that a considerable saving' had been made through employing relief labour. The chairman, Mr Fred Mack, sail that he realised the saving to the board’s finances but he could not agree with the principle involved. So long as the present state of affairs continued there would be no reduction in the ranks of unemployed in the country. Mr J. 11. Brock asked the chairman if he did not favour continued use of unemployed labour while other loca i bodies wore doing so.

“I say I am not in favour of the scheme, but the board will have to carry on -while other boards take advantage of.the saving,” said the chairman. Mr Garland pointed out that the saving went back to the ratepayers, who were all experiencing difficult dimes.
