WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT MAUNGATACTEABX INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION The August meeting of the Maungatautari,Women’s Institute was held m the local hall on Thursday last, when. Mrs E. Nickle presided over a good attendance of members and visitors. The meeting commenced with the repeating of the creed, after which, the correspondence was road. A very interesting “link’’ letter was read by the secretary from the Otawhao Institute, Takapau, Hawke’s Bay. • A vote' of sympathy with Mr and Mrs Meek' ing and family in their recent bereavement was passed, members standing iss silence.

The roll call, “A cure for the blues’ r brouglit forth many good suggestions’, Mrs Ariell gave the golden rule as the motto for the month: “Do unto others as you would they should do to you,’* - Miss Gladys Neely gave an excellent: demonstration in cane tray making and exhibited "beautiful samples of the popular D ’argena work. A hearty vote* of thanks was. accorded Miss Neely by' an appreciative audience.

A good entry in a plate of ■four' scones competition which was capably judged by Miss G. Neely, resulted as follows: Mrs Hyde first, Mrs Broad second. Excellent entries were received in the flower competition for a tall decorative vase • of flowers, which prefvided a beautiful sight. Mcsdames? Neely and Hanna judged and awarded Miss M. Hart Hicks first, Mrs EL Nickle second, and Mrs Suckling and Miss Watson tied for third.

Mrs Trow, assisted by Miss Watson,, had charge of the sales tabic, which did good business. A dainty afternoon! tea was served by the hostesses, Mcsdames E. J. Peake, Adams and J. A— Wallace.
