MR PRIESTLEY UNOPPOSED FOR MAYORALTY.

ELECTION FOR COUNCIL.

Although the present Mayor, Mr C. H. Priestley, will he elected unopposed for that office, there is greater interest than usual in the municipal and local body elections to be held in Cambridge on Wed-nesday,-May 3. -r! !, /-

Nominations closed for the . several issues at noon to-day, and it. wijl.be. seen from the official announcements, on. Page l, 1 that there is to be an election for the Borough Council, the Council fc"' Power Board representatives, and for - the Waikato seat on the Auckland Harbour Board. The Mayoralty. At the previous election Mr Priestley was opposed by Mr S. Lewis, the voting being 390 against 306, Mr Priestley being elected by the margin of 84 votes. In 1929 Mr Priestley defeated Mr T. F. Richards by 433 votes to 375. The Council. The recent decision to reduce the personnel of tho Borough Couniil from nine to six members narrows down I To number for selection on the present occasion. Nine nominations have been received for the six' ' seats, including seven sitting members. Two of these _ nominated, Messrs A. H. Nicoll and Edgar James, have not previously sat on tho council Two former members, Messrs T. F. Richards (a former Mayor) and T. H. Kelly, are not presenting themselves for election this year. The nine candidates are as follows: Messrs H. Alan Bell, C. W. Boyce, G. Calvert, Rev. C. W. Clark. Messrs Edgar James, Walter Moore. A. H. Nicoll, Mervyn Wells and A. Wilkinson. Power Board. In connection with the Power Board, two representatives will be required to be elected to represent, the Borough Council on the board in place of the retiring members, Messrs M. We'ls (chairman) and W. Moore... Both are offering themselves for re-election, and they are being opposed by Messrs S. R. James and S. L. Yale. Harbour Board Seat. An election will be held to elect one representative from the Waikato on tho Auckland Harbour Board. The combined district includes the Boroughs of Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Ngaruawahia. The nominations closed yesterday, and tho candidates are Messrs R. T.<, Reid, sitting member, of Hamilton, and C. H. Priestley, of Cambridge. This,/ issue promises to be keenly contested. !• Hospital Board. Mr H. Alan Bell, who has been the representative on the Waikato Hospital Board for the combined districts of Cambridge. Morrinsvillc, Te Aroha and To Awamutu is not being opposed, and has been duly declared elected.
