PROVINCIAL FIREMEN

BIG BRIGADES’ DEMONSTRATION

CAMBRIDGE TEAM TAKES PART,

A Cambridge team consisting of Deputy Superintendent Harris, and Firemen Byrne, Carter and White, visited To Aroha to take part in the largest lire brigades’ demonstrateion held in the Auckland Province, which opened at To Aroha on Saturday, and was completed on Tuesday. Fireman Thomason also made the journey to act as starter. No fewer than 41 selected teams took part, representing -25 different brigades as follows: Cambridge, Dargaville, Dovonport, Ellerslie, Manunui, Morrinsville, Otorohanga, Opotiki, Pukekeke, Papatoetoe, Otahuhu, Onehunga, Opotiki, Papakura Raetihi, Rotorua, Te Ivuiti, Te Awamutu, Te Aroha, Taumarunui, Tauranga Takapuna and Wliangarci. The Cambridge team acquitted itself well in the various contests against the pick of the provincial teams, and was placed in two events, gaining six shield points. Tho points for the Champion' Shield wore: Otorohanga 591, .1; To Aroha A, 58, 2; Taumarunui, 501, 3; Dargaville, 391, 4; and for the Brereton Shield, Rotorua,. 34, .1; .Whaugarei, 27-1-2: To Aroha, 201 3; Dargaville 23, 4; Otorohanga, 19, 5. At the conclusion of tho demonstration the visiting firemen wore taken to the Matamata Springs, where a very enjoyable time was spent.
