SCULLIN DEFEATED
DISSOLUTION REGARDED INEVITABLE. CHARGE AGAINST TREASURER Australian Press Assn —United Service#? (Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, To-day.. The Scullin Ministry was defeated in the House of Representatives yesterday by 37 votes to 32, on a motion moved by Mr J. A. Beasley, formerly Minister. of Industry. The Government is now considering; its position, and a dissolution is. regarded as inevitable. When the House assembled, Mr Beasley moved for an adjournment “to discuss tho method adopted by the Government in the engagement of labour under the Christmas unemployment scheme, for which £250,000 is being-* made available." Tho mover advocated the appointment of a Select Committee to be elected by Parliament by ballot. He laid & definite charge of political patronage? against the Federal Treasurer, Mr EL G. Theodore, declaring that the methods of engaging labour were of a political character, giving precedence tff r the Federal Labour Party's close supporters. • Mr Scullin refused to grant a Select' Committee, and challenged the Opposition and tho Beasley Labour group to an immediate election.
