STORE SHEEP
WAIKATO BUYERS HESITANT SALE OF GISBORNE STORES Uncertainty exists with regard to the sale of Gisborne's store sheep to outside districts during the coming selling season (states the Poverty Bay Herald). Already about 20,000 wethers arc on their way to Hawke's Bay sale yards from Wairoa, Ruaturi and Gisborne. The Gisborne mobs aggregate from 8000 to 10,000. Reports from the Waikato indicate an extreme reluctance on the part of buyers to enter into forward deals, and it seems that Gisborne sellers mustdo as they did last season, when they trekked their surplus stores to the Waikato markets. It is anticipated that plenty of breeding ewes will be required at that end, but many believe that last season's values, which were then thought to be bedrock, may be a little above the ideas of purchasers this summer. Last week, store wethers were selling in the Waikato for 9/- and 10/with small sorts from 7/6 to 8/6. Two : tooth ewes were making from 10/- to 12/-, and ewes with lambs from 7/- to 8/-. The freezing season is now getting into its stride, and the Kaiti works have already dealt with about 60,000 lambs. The killings last week wej-e considerably ahead of those of tho previous week, and the bulk of the stock being received still comprises lambs. Another large consignment is to be made by the Coptic, which will commence to load on Thursday morning; she is expected to take about 40,000 lamb carcases.
