FOOTBALL
ANOTHER SEASON APPROACHES. WAIKATO UNION MEETING. . With the autumn now well advanced district footballers are beginning to discuss the prospects for the coming season and interest is quickening generally. A move has already been made in this district by the Karapiro Club advertising its annual meeting next week. The Cambridge Sub-Union will also be holding its annual meeting in a few weeks’ time and clubs are urged to get their meetings under way as soon as possible so that they may have their iieW delegates at the sub-union meeting. A meeting of the Waikato Union management committee was hold at Hamilton last evening, when Mr W. Fraser presided over a good attendance of delegates. Referees’ Conference. A delegation was present from the Waikato Referees’ Association in connection with the Dominion Conference of representatives to be held at Hamilton at'Easter time, and they suggested that the union meet the expenses of entertainment of the delegates. The fact that' Hamilton had been selected as the venue for the conference this year was appreciated by the union delegates and it was agreed to donate ,£2O. Cambridge-Waipa Boundary. Tho question of the differences between Waipa and Cambridge sub-unions over thq western boundary, as it affects the Kaipaki Club, was briefly before the mooting. , It was pointed out that the matter had been set down to come before a special general meeting of the union in February of this year, but nothing hadbeen done. It was eventually resolved that the union’s representatives, Messrs A. Yardley and B- Chapman, meet representatives of the two sub-unions before Easter, when the matter will be threshed out and a recommendation from the union’s, representatives be placed before the annual meeting of the Waikato Union. Suggested Sub-Union Championship Scheme. Arising out of the representations made from time to time by the Cambridge Sub-Union that the Waikato Union consider the institution of the Taranaki scheme or some other scheme for the betterment of football in the Waikato, a special sub-committee submitted suggestions. In brief it was suggested that a sub-union championship competition be played with the Finlay Cup as a trophy. The si’.ggestion included division of the union territory into east and west sections with Hamilton included, and a final between the winners of each division. It was suggested that, tho draw be made not later than the last Friday in June. A further suggestion was offered that without Hamilton a competition on the same principle as No. 1 be played among the other sub-unions. It was decided tliat the suggestions be placed before the various sub-unions and that they report on same to the union at its annual meeting. General. It was decided, that the annual meeting be held on Friday, April 17. THE KARAPIRO CLUB. As advertised on page one of to-day’s issue the annual meeting of the Karapiro Football Club will be held in the Karapiro Hall on Thursday next, at 8 p.m. The meeting is being called early in the hope that tho club will be resuscitated after a recess of about two seasons. Tho formation of a strong club at Karapiro would materially help the district competitions.
