LAWN TENTHS

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES. MES F. SWAYNE LADY CHAMPION The final of the ladies' championship was played on the Cambridge courts yesterday, when Mrs F. Swayne met Miss Savage. The contest was a very good one, and it was a good display of tennis. Mrs Swayne adopted more forcing tactics than usual, and was particularly clever with her placements. Though Miss Savage was playing, a good game, she had to give way to a more experienced player. The first sot was won by Mrs Swayne, 6—3. In the next set Miss Savage became more aggressive, and had a good lead early in the play. However, Mrs Swayne was not to be denied, and won out, 6 —5, after a very fine contest. The position in regard to the men's singles championship is that Swayne is to meet D. Clow, while Robinson meets J. Cox in the semi-finals. Both of these matches should be exciting, and the final stages of the competitions are arousing much interest among players.
