SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

BOYS FALL FROM CLIFF,

A serious accident has occurred afcCape Brett lighthouse. Two boy*,. aged 11 and 7 years, sons of Mr Sift" clair, who was recently appointed keep-'' er at the lighthouse, fell over a cliff 88 feet high.

The task of rescuing the children was difficult and dangerous. Both wer* uuconscious. One received seriott* scalp wounds, necessitating the inser> tion of many stitches. Both boys QX& suffering from shock.

INVERCARGILL A CITY, NEW STATUS ON MARCH IST, OUR .SEVENTH CITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association). INVERCARGILL, Feb. 26, A message was received this evening from the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. P. A. de la Perelle, stating that a proclamation would be gazetted to-morrow declaring Invercargill a city from March Ist. The Mayor, Mr J. D. Campbell, said that the significance of this change was that Invercargill became a city with> out any alterations in its boundaries. According to the last Official Year* Book the population of Invercargill 'a urban area was estimated at 22,910, The present cities in New Zealand are v Auckland, Wellington,. Chriatchurch, Dunedin, Nelson and Wanga--* nui.

FOUND DEAD.

WANDERED FROM HOSPITAL, RESULT OF SEARCH, By Telegraph—Press Association— HAMILTON, This Day, John Simpson, aged 64, a married man, and a patient at the Waikato> Hospital, who wandered from the institution on Tuesday night, was founddead in a gully 100yds from the kospital late yesterday afternoon, after an arduous search by the police and staff.
