BRIDGE EVENING.

PERSONAL. .Miss Alice Hally is staying for a •few days with Mrs Sontcr.' Mrs G. G. L. Taylor has returned from her. month's visit to Tauranga. The week's hostesses for bridge foursomes were Miss Cox, Mrs Sawers, Mrs Hayward, Miss Brann, Mrs Calvert. Mrs S. Lewis left for Auckland last Monday, and is to be away about a •week. Mr B. Young, who has been staying with Mr and Mrs J. Sawers, of c£ Brooklyn, ” left for Westport, the latter part of last week. Mr and Mrs Hannon have returned from Rotorua, whore they have been staying for a few days. Mr Barclay Farquhar arrived from Fiji by the Toftia during the early part of t' M hs week, and is staying with Mr and Mrs Caldwell, of "Green Hedges." Mr, and Mrs Jim Fisher and Miss Brown left to-day for Taupo, and expect to be away for a couple of weeks. Mrs Jim Fisher has had staying with her, Mrs Gnfy, Mrs Yonge and Mrs David Anderson, of "Crosslca," OneLtmga. ,• , •,

Miss Brann and her sister, Miss Syd. Brann, entertained a few friends at bridge last Friday evening. Miss Brann was in a very pretty pale green georgette evening frock ornamented with diamante. Miss S. Brann, black lacc and georgette. Those present were: Mrs Oaldwed, amethyst georgette frock; Mrs Farquhar, a very smart French cerise embroidered georgette; Mrs Couper, black crepe do chine; Miss Cox, black and cream lace; Miss C. Willis, black georgette; Miss Couper, vine yellow crepe de chine. Mrs Couper won the first prize and Miss Willis the second.

AFTERNOON TEA. Mrs Jim Fisher had a few friends in to tea last Tuesday to meet her house guests, Mrs Yonge, Mrs Gray (Hamilton) and Mrs David Anderson. • Those present were: Mrs Norman Banks, Mrs J. S. Fisher, Mrs Roche, Mrs J. .Cox, Miss Brown, Miss Kathleen Fisher, Miss Thelma Banks.

BRIDGE EVENING. • Mr and Mrs Skeet had three tables of bridge one evening, last week, and the players were: Mr and Mrs Skeet, Miss Elsie Skeet, Miss Betty Skeet, Mr and Mrs S. Lewis, Mr and Mrs Hunt, Mrs Warren (Fiji), Miss Myra Warren, Miss Warren, Mr Possenniskie. TENNIS DANCE. The Regent Hall was commissioned by the Monavale Tennis Club Thursday night for their second dance of the season which was as successful in everyway as the previous one. The attendance was a large and representative one, and at one period of the evening there was between 75 .and 80 couples p/resent. The decorations were 1 the usual ones associated with the hall on such occasions. The spirited dance music provided by Mr T. Clayton’s orchestra was appreciated by all present and especially the rendering of many of the latest dance hits just released. The eommissariate was in charge of a ladies’ committee who ably handled the providing of the dainty supper that was handed round.

•““BON VOYAGE" PARTY.

Last Friday afternoon Mrs Alfred Gane gave a ‘‘bon voyage" party for Miss Ur.imie Fisher, who is shortly agoing to England. The bowls of dahlias and blue hydrangea in the drawingroom and elsewhere looked most effective, and made a charming background for the pretty dresses of the ladies present, v.'

The‘ hostess, Mrs Gane, was very smartly gowned in a navy blue satin licaute frock, which possessed the popular uneven hem of the moment. Miss Fished looked particularly smart in a pale pink embossed velvet georgette frock and nattier blue hat. During the afternoon Miss Thompson sang to, an appreciative audience, and then followed competitions, the prizo■winners being Mrs O. Gane and the guest of honour, Miss Fisher. The. ladies present were: Mrs A. B. €ox, Mrs A. Pearce, Mrs H. Ferguson, Mrs J. Scott, Mrs Thompson, Mrs O. Gane, -Mrs Jim Fisher, Mrs Hooker, Mrs M. Anderson, Mrs Collis, Mrs C. Meredith, Mrs A. Richardson, Mrs H. Ferguson, junr., Mrs N. Macky, Mrs W. S. Williams, Mrs Bryce, Miss Florence Clarky Miss Dorothy Cox, Miss J. "Watt, Miss i Hooker, Miss P. Ferguson, Miss .’Jessie Thompson. AFTERNOON PARTY. Last Saturday afternoon another party was given for the popular Miss Maimie Fisher, and this time by Mrs H. D. Hooker, of Pukeroro. The. guests w r erc entertained in a Sargo drawing-room opening on to a ■pretty porch, and both in the drawingroom and porch were quantities of {beautiful flowers in various shades of dlelicato blues.

Taking everything into consideration the dance was a most successful one, and was highly enjoyed by all, thanks due to the joint secretaries, Messrs J. Giles and J. D. Clcmow.

DOXuring the afternoon mirthful competitions were indulged in, and the ' .rize-wiliners were Mrs M. Butler, Mrs .'A. Pearce, Mrs A. Gane, and Miss T” her.

Jits; Hooker received her friends in ai black’georgette frock, ornamented -with diamante. Miss Fisher was in a rock of naby blue crepe de chine, with ‘Touches of Eastern colouring.

Also present were: Mrs A. Pearce, Mrs T. Robinson, Mrs M. Butler, Mrs Jim Fisher, Mrs H. Ferguson, junr., Mrs G-l M. Watt, Mrs J. S. Russell, Mrs A. Gane, Miss F. Hooker, Miss C. ■Hooker.
