ACCIDENTALLY STRANGLED CHILD'S TRAGIC FATE. CAUGHT IN WINDOW CORD. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, Friday. A distressing fatality occurred at Roslyn this morning when Patiicia Valerie McDonald, aged three years, accidently strangled herself with a window cord. The child, who was the daughter of Mr Frederick John McDonald, of Chapman Street, was put in a single bed by her mother at 10.15 for her morning sleep. When the mother went back to get her up for lunch about two hours later she found the child hanging with her head through a loop in a window cord and her toes about 4in off the floor. Dr Strain was called in, but life was extinct.
LEVEL CROSSING COLLISION.
GIG STRUCK BY TRAIN.
DRIVER’S CONDITION CRITICAL,
OTOROHANGA, Friday.
A collision between a mixed train and a gig occurred at the Otorohanga level crossing yesterday morning. The driver of the gig, Mr Alfred Kennedy, farmer, of Tahia, received serious head injuries, including a fracture of the skull.
Mr Kennedy, who is 50 years of age, was driving to the Otorohanga sale and the train was proceeding northward to Frankton. The gig was considerably damaged and the horse was so seriously injured that it had to be destroyed. Mr Kennedy’s condition is critical.
