BOWLING

CANADIANS’ VISIT. ALTERED ITINERARY. Since the arrangement of the itinerary for the tour of New Zealand by the party of Canadian bowlers who will arrive in Auckland on December 31, it has been ascertained that a steamer will leave Bluff for Melbourne on February 8, instead of February 1. The Canadian bowlers are agreeable to spending an extra week in New Zealand, but the change has necessitated revision of the itinerary. Cabled advice states that the party will number 45. The itinerary in the Auckland Province will be as follows: —Monday, December 30, arrive Auckland; Dec. 31 and January 5, Auckland and North Auckland Centres (Whangarei); January 6, leave Auckland for Hamilton; January 7, leave Hamilton for Rotorua; January 10, leave for Opotiki; January 11, leave Opotiki for Gisborne. The visitors will leave for the South Island on January 22. ' PRESIDENT’S PAIRS. A FINE GAME. There is no doubt about the keenness of local bowlers. Last evening, despite the heavy greens from the day’s rain and the drizzling rain that was still falling, a president’s pairs competition game was played between Ward and Speight (s) and Tod and Pearce (s), the result being a merited win for the former pair by 23 points to 20. Considering the conditions the green played surprisingly well, and a very fine game was witnessed, the losers being up against a handicap of 8 points. Ward and Speight played excellent bowls, with such success that they Reid their handicap right to the last few heads. Tod and Pearce were also playing well, but either Ward or Speight persistently drew the shot, and with the heads going against Pearce, who was also troubled somewhat with blocked heads, he was unable to make any impression on his opponents ’ handicap. When things looked hopeless on the I9th head, Pearce killed a difficult head when he was two down. On the 20th, a long head, the leaders failed and Pearce got a 5, an’d he was one down with the fight on again. On the deciding head Tod’s bowls were a bit over or short, while Ward played two nice bowls just behind and then one on the jack. Speight drew another and then blocked the head, Pearce failing with a drive and a capital game ended as stated. \ - ■■ ■■ VISIT TO TATJPIRI.
