Mr. Chas. Jarrett, of Leamington, recently entered the Waikato Hospital, suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. The Rev. Athol R. Penn, son of Mr. and Mrs. . Frank Penn, of this town, underwent an operation for appendicitis yesterday at Dunedin. He is reported to be doing well. ■ ' : : V
Mr.. G. C. Fache, Commissioner of Pensions, will retire at the end of this month, after 40 years in the Public Service. Mr. Fache is a New Zealander, having been born at Clyde in 1870.
A resolution of sympathy with Mr. J. A. Wallace, of Maungatautari, in the recent death of his brother, Mr. James Wallace, of Northern Wairoa, was passed by yesterday’s meeting of the Cambridge Farmers ’ Union.
At the monthly meeting of the Farmers ’ Union yesterday a resolution of sympathy and condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. Robert Fisher was carried in silence. The President referred in appropriate terms to the useful life of the late gentleman.
Mr. and Mrs. Craig, of Duke Street West, are leaving Cambridge shortly, Mr. Craig having purchased a farm in the Morrinsville district. On Wednesday they were tendered a farewell surprise party, when a number of friends were present and a very happy evening was spent.
Mr. F. Taylor, of the ‘ 1 Waikato, Independent” staff, has unfortunately been compelled to take a long rest, and leaves to-day for three months’ holiday for the benefit of his health. During his . absence his position will be filled by Mr. E. L. Rodgers, of Cambridge.' Mr. and Mrs. Sapsworth, of Los Angeles, California, who have been on an extended holiday to New. Zealand,"and who have been staying for the greater part of their time in this country with their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell, Thornton Road, left Cambridge for Auckland yesterday. They will leave Auckland on July 30tb for their home. Mr. John T. Jarrett, of Leamington, who has for some time been an inmate of the Waikatd Hospital"suffering from an affection of the legs, is still confined to the institution. Recently an operation was performed on the patient}-one Oi’ his toes being amputated. Mr. Jarrett’s many Cambridge friends will, wish him a speedy recovery from his .lengthy illness. ‘ '■ ! ;
’ Mr. H. Rowland, who has been manager of Cambridge branch of the Bank of .New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer to the position of manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Opotiki> and will be leaving here iu about ,10 days’ time. Residents of the town and district will hear with regret of Mr. Rowland’s departure, as he has proved a worthy citizen and a ..valued member of many local organisations. Mrs. Rowland and the family will also be much missed. Mr. Rowland will be succeeded by Mr. F. E. Coote, who lhas been doing relieving work for the Sank for a great many years! Mr. Coote will probably arrive here today. ' r :
